Teale Hatheway is known for her intimate paintings of old street lights scattered across our cities. This magenta, navy blue and orange lantern is from her ongoing series of urban light paintings on paper. It depicts a very old street lamp found along a bridge, just outside of Downtown Los Angeles. Over time Teale has added more and more color to her street lights as the paintings take on meaning about spirit, rather than the light itself.
This is an original acrylic and metal leaf painting on cold pressed, heavy-weight paper. It was composed using hand cut stencils and was sprayed with aerosol paint. The gilded lantern reflects light and gives the impression the light is "turned on."
