Hatheway Curatorial is pleased to present “Whispers and Sparks” a collection of assembled sculptures by Jason Hadley.

Jason Hadley wants to make you uncertain, but in the most comforting way possible, of course.

Hadley’s assemblage pieces are warm, colloquial vignettes of slightly familiar, totally awkward tall tales. Assembled with elements of personal ephemera, found materials, wax castings, encaustics, gifts, memories, and a wry sense of humor, Hadley deftly inspires curiosity without ever giving anything away. Layers of symbols and materials draw your eye into the pieces, loop through your rational mind, and spit you back out the other side, leaving you scratching your head, and wondering if you get it or if you’ve just been had.

And such is the way with Jason Hadley who, above all else, wants to offer you a new experience. From a performance and atmosphere-heavy rock band, to confounding immersive environments, to his recent push-button activated sculptures which screech feedback into the faces of audiences daring enough to touch, Hadley goes out of his way to make certain he isn’t the only one gleefully enduring his haunting art.

Whereas, in the past, Hadley has set imperceivable traps for his audience from which the only exits are unfairly close to something unspeakable, “Whispers and Sparks” is a decidedly more subtle installation from which you require no exit. It is quiet and glows with the flicker of incandescent bulbs. It is welcoming and entices you to sit by its hearth and get lost in its environments. It just wants to spend time with you. Or perhaps it wants to tickle your toes with a little rusty nail.

…Step right in and experience the wonders of Jason Hadley, a full service artist…
