I’m in love. So that’s great! (This is not new news. But we are fairly private people, so to you, maybe I just vanished into thin air?) Of course, I have another lover who is pretty annoyed with me right now. Actually, it’s not entirely clear that he’s noticed I wandered away. Sorry art career as I know you, I adore you, but you don’t keep me warm at night. It’s a classic scenario. Things were ticking along at a good pace… Lots of shows… Many sales. Great friendships. A social life that outpaced my inclinations. Press. Lots of press. And then along came M. I wasn’t looking for someone who lives elsewhere. In fact, I was so work-driven that I had to be beaten over the head to see who was standing in front of me. The rest is history and I have become an expert in packing for weekend get-aways. Traveling for love means that I am not out pounding the pavement as much as I used to. I have to allocate my time differently. In order to be true to the relationship of my heart, I choose to adjust my other relationships accordingly. But Art – I won’t quit you! I wrestled with the notion of launching an online shop for my paintings for well over a year. The fear was real. You see, there is a rift between gallery and self representation. It’s like oil and vinegar (so much more flavorful than water). I get it. Mostly. Sort-of. But I don’t think it’s necessary. (More on that later.) Regardless, my loyalty is to making art and thriving. When I succeed as both an artist and a person, I can provide more value to my gallery, collector and personal relationships. I owe it to all of us to find a way to make it work.
Selling my paintings on line was the first and most public step in the process of self representation, and so far, well, it’s going quite well! I’m taking some business classes and expanding my on-line presence. It is an exciting time and also a ton of work! Building a business from scratch WHILE hand producing considerate, quality paintings I am proud of is a little mind boggling. (Bless galleries for this reason, among many others.) I’m happy to say that sales are steadily climbing though. Yay! So thanks for sticking with me on this journey! If you are not already on my email list, please sign up for early access to launches of new series of paintings and exhibition announcements. Also, please consider sharing my work with your friends, associates, clients and families. I could very much use your help as I grow! And of course, check out my online shop! THIS IS WHERE THINGS ARE HAPPENING Cheers! -T PS - I cannot wait to introduce you to M. He’s a wonderful photographer and a kind, generous and ambitious human. I’m am over-the-moon grateful to have him in my life.
